Australia has crushed India by 298 runs and in the process completed the series whitewash following comfortably taking out the Fourth Vodophone Test being played in Adelaide.

The hosts removed the final four wickets needed for victory early on day five to ensure Australia completed the series whitewash 4-0 over India following victories in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

India lost their final four wickets for 35 runs on the fifth and final day of the match on Saturday to be all out for 201, 298-runs in the rears of their required target of 500 runs.

Resuming on 6 for 166 and needing a further 334 runs to win the game the tourists were never a chance and lost their final four wickets within the first session of the fifth day’s play at Adelaide Oval.

Without even adding a run to their overnight total the tourists lost night-watchman Ishant Sharma (2) who was caught behind off the bowling of quick Ryan Harris and four runs later wicketkeeper WP Saha (3) was also on his way after also being caught behind this time off the bowling off Peter Siddle.

India had slumped to 8 for 170 before tailenders Ravichandran Ashwin (15 not out) and Zaheer Khan (15) took it up to the Australian attack before Khan went for one shot too many and skyed one of the bowling off Ben Hilfenhaus after adding 23 for the ninth wicket.

The home side removed the final wicket and ended the four test series on a high as the tourists number 11 in Umesh Yadav (1) was caught behind off the bowling of spinner Nathan Lyon, his fourth victim of the second innings.

Lyon took four seconds innings but was overshadowed by team-mate and quick Peter Siddle who took five first innings wickets to earn man of the match of honours with his captain Michael Clarke named player of the series.
