10-man Gold Coast win basement battle

Gold Coast United have won the battle of the cellar dwellars in front of a crowd that looked more like a Gold Coast home game at Hindmarsh Stadium.
On 9 minutes, former Gold Coast striker Bruce Djite had a chance to put Adelaide one up – but unfortunately mistimed his header and just moments later there was action at the other end of the pitch as Eugene Galekovic made an excellent reflex save from Dylan Macallister.
But on 18 minutes, young striker Ben Halloran got the away side on the board after some sloppy defending in the penalty box, and the ball bobbled to the blonde beach boy who’s deflected shot bamboozled Adelaide keeper Galekovic.
The home side tried to claw their way back into the match, however Gold Coast doubled their mi
sery on 36 minutes, Halloran laying the ball of for dutch off-season recruit Marceo Rigters to hit a thunderbolt from outside the box and send Gold Coast into the half-time break at 2-0.
The second half was a scrapy affair, and this was accentuated when Ante Bozic was sent off after a second yellow card, following a poor two footed tackle on Sergio Van Dijk from behind.
Dylan Macallister finished the rout, poking home a goal infront of the red army, and cutting the difference between the two sides to just one point on the Hyundai A-League table.
The game however did have some important relevance to the league with Liberian refugee Teeboy Kamara, at the tender age of 15 making his debut in front of the home crowd.
