Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport has confirmed his split away from the Walkinshaw Racing-built chassis they have used for their first two years of competition, inking a new multi-year deal with Triple Eight Race Engineering for the 2012 season and beyond.

Lucas Dumbrell, the youngest racing team owner in the V8 Supercar Championship pit lane, has kept his cards close to his chest ahead of the February 11 test day in regards to the new sponsors that have come on board to financially back the team, and the teams new driver after their previous driver Warren Luff confirmed his leaving of the team at the end of the last championship series.

However the young team owner let his guard down a little bit confirming that their two year partnership with Walkinshaw Racing had come to an end with the young team switching to Triple Eight Race Engineering prepared VE Holden Commodore, with the partnership covering the team with a brand new commodore in 2013 that complies with the Car of the Future specifications.

“I’m really happy to be able to confirm this deal – not just for the car, but for the technical alliance as well,” Dumbrell told leading motorsport news website Speedcafe.com.

“Triple Eight is the form team, and it was a bit of a no-brainer. It’s who I wanted to align myself with, especially with Car of the Future coming up next year.

“The thing with Triple Eight is that they have a set program in place. They have effective procedures. I certainly don’t think we are any smarter than them, so I’m not going to go and make radical changes.

“We have some new staff on this year, so with the right guys, I definitely think this arrangement will work very well. All the pieces of the puzzle are here now, we’ve just got to put it all together.

“I’m not confident of better results – I know they’ll be better results,” he said.

“I think this will help raise the profile of the team. Having an alliance with this calibre of team is fantastic. You get what you pay for. They are the smartest blokes in the business.”

Dumbrell further went on to confirm that the switch was made after they were able to secure the chassis used by Russell Ingall at Paul Morris Motorsport for the 2011 V8 Supercar Championship.

A driver announcement for the team is expected in the next week however it is believed that V8 Development driver Taz Douglas is the leading contender for the ride after a number of good seasons in the Fujitsu Series and strong performances when called up into the main game for the endurance races.
