Webb expands operation
Tekno Autosports, the operation in which V8 Supercar driver Jonathan Webb drives for, has confirmed that they will not only expand its operation in 2012 but will make the switch to using Holden Commodores.
The decision, which was a shock to many long time Ford fans whose representation could shrink to as little as ten Ford Falcons for the new V8 Supercar Championship season compared to the current standing number of eighteen for the Holden Commodores.
Tekno Autosports team owner, Steven Webb, has confirmed reports that the V8 Supercar board has ratified his deal to lease one of Paul Morris Motorsport’s Racing Entitlement Contract (REC) for 2012, with a further option to buy-out the contract in 2013.
In addition to leasing the Racing Entitlement Contract Webb confirmed the team will be making the switch to the Holden Commodore next season with the team recently purchasing two of the Triple-Eight Race Engineering Holden Commodores that the Paul Morris Motorsport outfit had in their workshop – one of which hasn’t been raced before.
“I think it proved our commitment to the sport” Webb said when making the announcement.
“When I appointed Bruce Jenkins as our team manager, I set out a five-year plan with him and expanding to a two car outfit in 2012 was the second thing on the list that we outlined.”
“Things are on track for us” Webb continued.
“At this point in time, our performances over the past number of months, have been pretty good.”
“Bruce has been a real revelation for us. We just needed someone at the top who was able to put everything together.”
While the lease of the Racing Entitlement Contract has been confirmed and approved by the V8 Supercar board the identity of the team’s second driver is still to be confirmed.
“As Garry Rogers says we have until March to have things finalised” Webb stated with a snicker.
A number of names have been thrown up for the drive with the leading contender being newly crowned Fujitsu V8 Supercar Champion Andrew Thompson.
