Black Caviar cruises to victory
One in a generation mare Black Caviar has handed her first start beyond 1200m with ease as she cruised to victory in the $400,000 Group One Sportingbet C.F. Orr Stakes raced over 1400m in Melbourne on Saturday
Starting the race as the raging hot favourite ($1.04) the extra distance didn’t bother the five-year-old as she raced away to her 18th straight victory in front of another adoring crowd at the Caulfield Racecourse.
The Peter Moody trained, Luke Nolan ridden mare was beautifully place as she sat in fourth place in the early part of the race before making her move round the final corner and comfortably strolling home.
Black Caviar who in her previous 17 starts had won by a combined 78 lengths extended that as she took out the Group One race by three lengths over last year’s Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed ($13.10) with Western Australian horse Playing God ($31.80) rounding up the placing’s.
The victory saw Black Caviar equal the legendary Ajax Australian record off 18 straight wins set back in the 1930’s and took its career prize money to $4.74 million.
“What do you say? It’s unbelievable,” trainer Peter Moody told reporters afterwards.
“It’s mind-boggling.”
“What she does to good horses is unbelievable.”
“I’m just rapt.”
“It’s amazing, we’ve never pushed her.”
