Gronk: I’m ready to go
New England Patriots record setting tight-end Rob Gronkowski has declared that his injured ankle will be fine come this Sunday when his side face off against the New York Giants at Super Bowl XLVI to be played in Indianapolis.
The second year tight-end who set NFL records for most touchdowns caught by a player in his position suffered a high ankle sprain in the Patriots 23-20 victory in the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens on January 22nd.
Following the game Gronkowski was seen wearing a moon boot on his left foot but for the first time on Tuesday – Super Bowl Media Day – the man who wears number 87 spoke to the media without any support.
“I’m improving every day,” said Gronkowski. “The only reason it’s getting so blown up is because it’s the Super Bowl. It’s just like any other injury during any other week.”
Gronkowski spoke to the media for about an hour and at times even joked around but when asked whether or not this injury would keep him out during the regular season he was more serious.
“I couldn’t answer that,” commented Gronkowski. “It’s not a regular-season game. It’s the Super Bowl this week and (we’re) just preparing like it’s a big game and it’s the biggest game. It ain’t no regular-season game. So you’ve got to treat it a lot differently.”
Gronkowski future hall of fame quarterback in Tom Brady who will be playing in his fifth Super Bowl and aiming for his fourth title was optimistic that one of his key weapons would be fine for the kick-off at Lucas Oil Stadium this Sunday night.
“He’s obviously making progress,” Brady said on Media Day. “He’s out of his boot today, which makes me feel a lot better. I told him he should write like `Mom I love you’ on his sock or something because I’m sure there’ll be a lot of pictures of his sock.”
“If anybody wants to be out there, it’s him. No one’s as tough as him.”
