Prince to fight on
Social networking websites have been flooded with Rugby League fans sharing their impression that Gold Coast Titans skipper Scott Prince was unwanted at the club.
However the half back who led the Gold Coast Titans to within one-win of the 2010 National Rugby League Grand Final has the support of veteran prop Luke Bailey who says that Prince will do nothing but prove his critics wrong in 2012.
“Scotty was not the only bloke who had an off season this year” Bailey said.
“We (the Titans) finished last, doesn’t that say how under performing we were.”
“Scott is a champion player and no doubt he will be back to his best in 2012.”
Bailey was forced to come to the aid of Scott Prince who, since the Titans won the wooden spoon, has come under scrutiny by both Gold Coast Titans fans and rugby league fans in general.
Many turning to social networking websites Facebook and Twitter claiming that he was unwanted by the club, and that the Michael Searle backed Titans outfit were looking to offload the ageing half back.
“It’s hard to ignore it when it’s in your face all the time, especially when you’re into Twitter and Facebook like Princey. You cop a hiding,” said Bailey, one of the few forwards who maintained his 100-metre-a-game consistency last season.
“But great halfbacks always redeem themselves.
“Great players know how to put bad things behind them.”
Bailey, who turns 32 next month, said the arrival of some new forwards at the club, headed by Nate Myles and Luke Douglas, would also force him to challenge himself once more as he lines up for his 13th NRL pre-season.
“I felt great last season, playing long minutes, and statistically I was doing better than normal,” he said. “I was quite surprised.
“Every year I like to challenge myself and give these young dudes a run for their money.”
